Tobias – The STORY
Tobias Froberg was born in Sweden and brought up on the beautiful and dramatic island of Gotland, in the middle of the Baltic sea. For many years, Tobias was a writer for daily papers and magazines in Sweden but he always said that, by the time he had interviewed both movie director Ingmar Bergman and music legend Neil Young, he would stop working as a writer, and start making music.
In 2003 he got to do a couple of interviews with the iconic director, something that no one else had done since the late 1960´s. After the last interview session, it was on a spring day at the dramatic theatre in Stockholm – Bergman´s very last day there – Tobias went to a concert with Neil Young.
– That was the sign I guess I had been waiting for. I did´nt get to talk to Neil Young, but I saw them live on the same day. How much closer can you get? Tobias asks.
That became one of Ingmar Bergman´s very last interviews.
Tobias recorded his debut album in 2004, “For Elisabeth wherever she is”, and the album was nominated for a swedish indie grammy.
Two years later, the second album came out, “Somewhere in the city”. It was released in over 25 countries, and got amazing press all over the world. In the UK, the record label was Poptones, music legend Alan McGee´s own label after Creation Records. And UK press was certainly lovebombing the swedish artist. Music magazine The Word wrote for example “I´m honestly starting to think it might be one of the greatest records ever made. I am”. Uncut gave it four out of five. And so it went on.
In 2008, it was time for the third album, Turn Heads. This time Tobias had produced it himself. And this time the guests were Peter Morén (Peter Bjorn and John), Kathryn Williams, Ane Brun, Teitur, Theresa Andersson, Folke, Existensminimum and Mattias Blomdahl. Tobias´father, jazz musician Ante Froberg also plays on a couple of songs. Linus Larsson has mixed Turn Heads.

The Big Up
Now it´s time for The Big Up. In Sweden, where it was released in April - the reviews were fantastic. The best critical aclaimed album for Tobias in his home territory so far.
– I built it around my Hammond Organ I bought in Chicago, says Tobias. It´s a love album dedicated to my wife, Sandra. Could be cheesy, I know. But I think I managed to stay on the other side of the fence. It´s very uplifting – and very dark. When you have everything, you have a lot to lose. It´s, to my ears, by far the best album I´ve done.
Tobias has had quite a few songs in commercials and tv series. The last tv sync was in the very first episode of HBO:s Bored to death. Last year in Sweden, swedish TV4 made a serie called Blomstertid. And - they did something which is unique, they used only one artist for all the music; the song catalouge of Tobias Froberg. Now, the same series is sold to ABC in the States who are going to make the american version.
